What is a zip file?

All our artwork, when downloaded comes in a .zip file. This means that the file has been “compressed” so that it will be faster to download. Think of it like “deflating” an inflatable bed, once you let all the air out and fold it up, it is much smaller and easier to transport. The term that is used to describe this process is “zipping” a file.

If you’re using a PC your “zipped” file will look like this:

[/spb_text_block] [spb_blank_spacer height=”30px” width=”1/4″ el_position=”first”] [spb_image image=”15979″ image_size=”full” frame=”noframe” intro_animation=”none” animation_delay=”200″ fullwidth=”no” lightbox=”no” link_target=”_self” caption_pos=”hover” width=”1/2″ el_position=”last”] [/spb_column] [spb_column width=”1/2″ el_position=”last”] [spb_text_block animation=”none” animation_delay=”0″ padding_vertical=”0″ padding_horizontal=”0″ width=”1/1″ el_position=”first last”]

If you’re using a Mac your “zipped” file will look like this:

[/spb_text_block] [spb_blank_spacer height=”30px” width=”1/4″ el_position=”first”] [spb_image image=”15978″ image_size=”full” frame=”noframe” intro_animation=”none” animation_delay=”200″ fullwidth=”no” lightbox=”no” link_target=”_self” caption_pos=”hover” width=”1/2″ el_position=”last”] [/spb_column] [spb_row wrap_type=”content-width” parallax_image_height=”content-height” parallax_image_movement=”fixed” parallax_image_speed=”0.5″ bg_video_loop=”yes” parallax_video_height=”window-height” parallax_video_overlay=”none” row_overlay_opacity=”0″ vertical_center=”true” width=”1/1″ el_position=”first last”] [spb_text_block animation=”none” animation_delay=”0″ padding_vertical=”0″ padding_horizontal=”0″ width=”1/1″ el_position=”first last”]

When the file is downloaded, before it can be used for your projects it must be “uncompressed” or “re-inflated” this is known as “unzipping” the file.

Do it on a Mac…

[/spb_text_block] [spb_blank_spacer height=”30px” width=”1/2″ el_position=”last”] [spb_text_block animation=”none” animation_delay=”0″ padding_vertical=”0″ padding_horizontal=”0″ width=”1/2″ el_position=”first”]

1. Simply double click the “zipped” file and it will automatically create an “unzipped” version next to the original. Your files are now ready to use in your projects.

[/spb_text_block] [spb_image image=”16000″ image_size=”full” frame=”noframe” intro_animation=”none” animation_delay=”200″ fullwidth=”no” lightbox=”no” link_target=”_self” caption_pos=”hover” width=”1/3″ el_position=”last”] [spb_image image=”16159″ image_size=”full” frame=”noframe” intro_animation=”none” animation_delay=”200″ fullwidth=”no” lightbox=”no” link_target=”_self” caption_pos=”hover” width=”1/3″ el_position=”first”] [spb_text_block animation=”none” animation_delay=”0″ padding_vertical=”0″ padding_horizontal=”0″ width=”2/3″ el_position=”last”]

2. If you find your Macs default archive utility is not able to open your “zipped” file then you can download from the app store “The Unarchiver”, this tiny app packs a massive punch and has the ability to open almost any kind of compressed file.

3. Simply install the app onto your Mac.

4. Right click on your “zipped” file. Navigate to “open with” in the menu then select “The Unarchiver”.
Your “unzipped” file will now be created next to your exiting “zipped” one.

You can download “The Unarchiver” here.

TIP: If you open “The Unarchiver” from Launchpad it gives you instructions on how to make this software your default for opening “zipped” files.

1. Right Click on the .zip file and navigate to the “Extract All…” option in the menu. Left click this option.

2. A window will now pop up asking you to select a destination, this is where the “unzipped” file will be placed. The default is to place the “unzipped” file in the same place as the original “zipped” one. If you would like to change this location then click on the “Browse…” button and navigate to the desired folder.

3. Once you have chosen where to place the file, click the “Extract” button.

What if I can’t see these options?

If you cannot see any of these options then you will have to download an “unzipping” program.

A very good program that can be downloaded for free is 7zip.

1. Click here to go to the 7zip website.

2. Click on the word “download” next to the 32-bit x86 version.

3. Once the 7zip installation file has finish downloading. Click on the file explorer icon in the bottom left of your screen.

[/spb_text_block] [spb_image image=”16005″ image_size=”full” frame=”noframe” intro_animation=”none” animation_delay=”200″ fullwidth=”no” lightbox=”no” link_target=”_self” caption_pos=”hover” width=”1/6″ el_position=”last”] [spb_image image=”16009″ image_size=”full” frame=”noframe” intro_animation=”none” animation_delay=”200″ fullwidth=”no” lightbox=”no” link_target=”_self” caption_pos=”hover” width=”1/3″ el_position=”first”] [spb_text_block animation=”none” animation_delay=”0″ padding_vertical=”0″ padding_horizontal=”0″ width=”2/3″ el_position=”last”]

4. Navigate to “Downloads” file on the left hand side menu.

[/spb_text_block] [spb_text_block animation=”none” animation_delay=”0″ padding_vertical=”0″ padding_horizontal=”0″ width=”1/1″ el_position=”first last”]

5. Here you will find the 7zip installation file, double click it to begin the install.

6. Follow the onscreen instructions to install 7zip. You may have to restart your computer after the installation is complete.

7. Once 7zip is installed. Right click the .zip file, this time you will see some extra options available.
