We have promised to show you our finished home studio for quite some time now and what better way to do so than on our new blog! Above is a little preview of the finished room and below you will see some more before and after pics as well as where to shop this style.
Our goal was to design a space where we could be transported into a different world. Somewhere that would inspire us to create and not feel like a bedroom.
Above is a picture of the blank canvas we started with and then the transformation of the same area. The main feature of this room was to have a wooden wall. After doing lots of research as to what kind of look the room should have, we sourced some wood from an old Georgian house in the UK. It was to prove perfect as each floorboard was unique and had character. After each board was cleaned it was then sanded and stained with natural oils. We love the finished look as it brings warmth (essential in Scotland!) and a relaxing atmosphere to the room.
One important aspect of the room was to have a large desk where we both could comfortably work. This was proving a challenge to find and so we decided to build our own. The desk is supported by two old filing cabinets purchased from a junk yard. The cabinets were painted with some wonderful Annie Sloan Paint in Graphite. The top of the desk was made from four scaffolding boards. The boards were glued together, sanded and sealed with a light wax. To finish the look we added some of the left over wood from the wall to the front of the cabinets and attached some vintage handles.
To complete the studio we added vintage lightbulbs, rustic furniture, eclectic cushions, a bronze lamp and very large window style mirror. Here are a few more pics of the completed room:
